Position Title: Associate Dean, Exercise & Nutritional Sciences (portfolio name subject to change)
Status: Full-time Admin
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Faculty/Department: Faculty of Health Sciences & Wellness
Campus/Location: North Campus; In-person
Starting Salary: $139,301; starting salaries are determined based on qualifications and years of related experience.

About the Associate Dean, Exercise & Nutritional Sciences Role:
Reporting to the Senior Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences & Wellness, the Associate Dean works collaboratively with the Senior Dean and other members of the administrative team in developing and implementing the Faculty's strategic initiatives, aligning with the polytechnic's academic plan.
The Associate Dean provides academic and administrative leadership, supervision, and direction to faculty, managers, support staff, and students within the programs in their portfolio.
The incumbent ensures that program objectives are met through effective oversight of teaching and learning. They facilitate the ongoing development, review, and renewal of programs to align with evolving market demands, industry employment needs, innovation, and partnerships in their areas of responsibility. The Associate Dean also supports the development of applied research initiatives across the portfolio.
The Associate Dean contributes to the development and implementation of Faculty-based academic and student success initiatives, including student recruitment and retention, strategic enrollment management, problem solving, appeals processes, job placement initiatives, and leadership development.
In collaboration with the Senior Dean, the Associate Dean liaises with internal and external stakeholders, representing the Faculty in meetings and initiatives relevant to their portfolio.
While the Faculty is currently based at North Campus, as new programs are introduced and the Faculty continues to expand, this role may also oversee programming at other campuses.

Education
- The successful candidate will possess a minimum of a master’s degree, with a PhD preferred, in a related discipline.
- In addition to education, the candidate must have professional experience relevant to programs within the portfolio.
Experience/Skills
The ideal candidate will have academic leadership experience in postsecondary education within the last decade and at least five years of postsecondary teaching experience. They must demonstrate expertise in curriculum and program development, marketing, public speaking, budgeting, strategic planning, team building, and human resources management. A proven record of fostering excellence in teaching and learning is essential, along with advanced competence in college-level curriculum design, program and schedule planning, and evaluation. The candidate should also have relevant industry experience aligned with the programs within the portfolio and a strong understanding of the broader social, employment, and economic contexts related to current and future course offerings. A commitment to inter-professional education and collaboration within the Faculty and the wider College community is required.
Required Skills:
- Demonstrated administrative or leadership experience at the community college level, including developing and managing budgets, administration of policies and procedures, and management of human resources.
- Strong consensus-building skills; ability to promote excellent working relationships with both academic and non-academic staff; and demonstrated ability in conflict resolution.
- Resource management skills (human as well as physical and financial).
- Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to negotiate, advise, mentor, and engage effectively with diverse groups.
- Proven experience handling sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Superior time management and organizational skills, including the ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
- Computer literacy skills: experience with software to support research and administrative activities, student management and learning management systems, educational and collaborative technologies.
- Ability to foster high performance within individuals and teams.
- Demonstrated advocacy for the professions within the portfolio, with awareness of the professional landscape locally, nationally, and internationally
