Assistant Brewer Job Description
Reporting to the Head Brewer, the Assistant Brewer will contribute to the brewing, cellaring and packaging of beer, along with responsibilities relating to the upkeep and maintenance of the brewhouse, brewery warehouse and brewery operations in general.
· Operation of all brewhouse equipment in accordance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
· Demonstrated ability to learn brewing software and other software used in the brewing process.
· Sound decision making based on f information provided by the Head Brewer, the PLC interface, and other related information sources.
· Material handling: receiving, warehousing, weighing and processing of grain, wort & green beer transfer, brite beer packaging and warehousing of finished product and associated packaging materials.
· Day-to-day process of brewing (Mashing, lautering, boiling, wort casting).
· Record keeping – detailed reporting of Brewhouse metrics, maintaining accurate and complete records.
· Daily housekeeping in brewhouse and intensive weekly cleaning of brewhouse equipment and vessels.
· Repair and overhaul duties throughout the year.
· Understanding, development and use of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
· Quality sampling, testing and record keeping related to the brewing process as required.
· Assistance with regular production and packaging of beer, focusing on kegging, canning and cleaning to start and progressing to more advanced cellaring and brewing activities based on aptitude and experience.
· Management of raw material and finished goods inventory.
· Assistance with ordering of goods and services to support day-to-day operation of the brewery.
· Assistance with production scheduling.
· Assistance with maintenance of brewing equipment and utilities.
· Understand the business and be a ambassador of our brand. Perform other duties as may be required.
· High school diploma or equivalent. Post-secondary education considered an asset
· Formal brewing education (diploma in brewing, Niagara or equivalent experience).
· Previous experience in brewing operations.
· Smart Serve certification.
· Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and take initiative.
· Willing and able to work shift work (days, afternoons and midnights), overtime, weekends, and holidays.
· Compliance with SOP’s health and safety regulations.
· Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work cooperatively with co-workers and managers.
· Willingness and ability to learn; flexible and adaptable to change.
· Attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
· High energy, resourceful and results oriented with a ‘can-do' attitude.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written.
· Effective analytical, problem-solving, project and time management skills.
· Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, Process Improvement and Process Control.
· Competent computer skills including Microsoft Office, MS Word, Excel.
Working Conditions
· Physical Environment(s): Production/Warehousing; Indoor Office.
· Frequently wet environment with chemical, hot water, steam piping hazards.
· Physical Requirements: Standing for long periods of time; frequently lifting 25 kg grain bags, 30 L full kegs, carrying, pushing, lifting, bending and pulling weights of up to 40 kg.
· Working on ladders and at heights up to 4 metres.

Contract length: 3 months
Pay: $20.73-$23.29 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
